Star Sapphire was normally Green Lantern’s foe (and sort of his girlfriend and employer when out of costume). Or so it went back in the Silver Age. This is probably the second best known kinky cover in comics history.

Like most people my age I first became aware of Frank Frazetta when his covers for the Lancer Books Conan the Barbarian revived the character from the obscurity of old issues of the horror pulp Weird Tales.
I’ve never been a big fan of Frazetta’s art. But I’d never argue with anyone who thinks he is the supreme master of heroic fantasy illustration. The palpability and dynamism of his paintings make the impossible seem convincingly actual. And his sense of color is singular and beautiful.
I don’t really know what is this illustration is from or about. It is probably as close to F/m art as Frazetta ever got.

Robert Crumb was the most seminal, gifted, influential artist of the 1960s underground comix movement. One of the major cartoonists of the last third of the 20th century.
I remember walking home the day I bought my first Crumb comics. I was 16 and his images thrilled and dumbfounded me.

I posted the original art to the first cover last month. Back then I did not realize that it was from a cover of Weird Tales.
Weird Tales – the original, the title has been revived a few times – was a marginally successful early 20th century American pulp magazine. It is best remembered for publishing H.P. Lovecraft (Cthulu Mythos) and Robert E. Howard (Conan the Barbarian). The magazine also published Ray Bradbury and just about every horror and fantasy writer between M.R. James and Arthur Machen and Peter Straub and Stephen King.
Margaret Brundage’s (women in) bondage paintings are the best remembered Weird Tales covers. A few with more femdomish possibilities appear below.
